Summer Workshops 2009

"We all have the ability to do art---creative energy flows through us---and when we are in the right supportive environment, the process begins and we discover the joy of expressing our unique view of the world around us."

This season’s workshop calendar will once again focus on pastel painting both indoors as well as en plein air in the mountains of beautiful southern Vermont. Three exciting workshops are being offered during the month of August when the days are sunny and warm and nights are cool and restful.  At Fletcher Farm School in Ludlow, Vt., there will be a 3-day beginner pastel session where you will learn all the basics of this colorful medium, followed by a 5-day intermediate plein air session when we will paint at various locations around the Ludlow area.  Then, at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, there will be a 2-day session held on the grounds of Olalie Day Lily Farm.  So pack your painting supplies and leisure clothes and join me for a great learning vacation of fun and creativity.

The Value of Light
Plein Air Landscape Painting
August 22, 10am – 5pm
August 23, 12pm – 5pm

Intermediate to Advanced
I
nstructor:  Karen Baker CPS, PSA
River Gallery School, Brattleboro, Vt.
Tuition:  $175

The plein air experience—or painting outdoors from life—is more about expressing patterns of light and dark and less about recording objects or details.  As a springboard to more effective studio painting, day one of the workshop will focus on developing a series of small-format color studies to help you identify the colors of light and summarize what you see.  Day two expands on the process to include a  finished painting.  We will work on location both days at the Olalie Day Lily Farm in South Newfane, where subjects include fields of flowers, hillside orchards, and rustic farm buildings.  Your instructor will demonstrate in the pastel medium. However, because this method also applies to working in oils, the intermediate to advanced student in another medium is welcome to enroll.  Detailed course outline and suggested materials list available upon registration.  karen@kbakerstudios.com  727-366-6477

Eden

As an artist and instructor, I believe God is revealing to His people greater visions of who He is and who we are in Him. Because I am a faith believer in the anointed, corporate body of Christ, I believe in the guidance and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. Visual artists of faith have a privilege and a responsibility to bring forth God-inspired images for service and purpose unto the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. It is my prayer and mandate to encourage artists to call forth those images He is imparting to us out of the body of Christ by faith. I believe God makes divine connections between artists of faith to join together and reveal through our artwork how great and how wise and how loving a God we serve.
