The Beginner Pastelist
July 24 - 26 at The Fletcher Farm School--Ludlow, Vt.

This comprehensive workshop is designed for the beginner student and provides an excellent introduction to the pastel medium. Learn the basics of technique, color use, and composition while painting still life in-studio and rural landscapes from photos and on-site locations (weather permitting). Florals & Still Life in Watercolor
July 31 August 2 at the Hermitage Inn--Wilmington, Vt.

This 3-day workshop takes the mystery out of using watercolors and is designed for all levels of ability. You will work primarily indoors from still life setups and photographs, with some instruction outdoors in the lush floral gardens of the Hermitage Inn. Instructor Diane Allen will cover many areas of watercolor painting including the fundamentals, various techniques, the study of values and composition, color theory, and much more. Paint the Vermont Landscape in Pastels
August 7 9 at the Hermitage InnWilmington, Vt.

This comprehensive workshop focuses on the elements of landscape painting. Open to all levels of ability, it is a good beginner-intermediate course. We will paint outdoors (weather permitting) on the grounds of the Hermitage Inn as well as indoors from sketches and photo references. You will learn about materials, technique, values in color, composition, and how to render light and shadow. Oil Painting On Location for All Levels
August 14 16 at the Hermitage Inn--Wilmington, VT.

The novice and the experienced oil painter will both benefit from this fun and informative workshop given by professional artist-teacher Janet Taylor. The subject is rural landscape, with an emphasis on painting outdoors on the grounds of the beautiful Hermitage Inn. Creating the effects of light and color from direct observation will develop an understanding of individual interests and artistic style. Painting sites include the trout pond, apple orchard, sugarhouse, and mountain vistas. Through a series of exercises, spontaneous quick-studies, and teacher demos, students will learn to think outside the box when addressing such issues as choosing a composition, color mixing, and how to better render landscape elements. Painting the Rural Landscape in Pastels

Take your pastel painting to a new level. This 4-day workshop will challenge the intermediate and advanced student. We will work both in-studio from photographs and color studies and from life on-location (weather permitting) at area sites, with a focus on rural landscape painting. You will learn about painting on location, rendering light and shadow, tonal values, composition and more. Teacher demos, painting exercises, and individual critique of student work will help finesse your personal style and creative vision.
